    sbc oil pump pickups

were the pickups for a 5 qt oil pan same configuration as the 6 Qt SHP oil pans? i seem to recall they are different but my old parts books are not specific enough for a determination. have a buddy having trouble installing a 6 qt pan on the oil pump/pickup that the machine shop supplied. if different, is there a source for the SHP 6 qt oil pan's pump pickup? thanks, mike

    Mike,

For the C2 small blocks I believe all the oil pump pickups are the same but they are different for Corvette verses passenger car, the machine shop may have installed a passenger car pickup. The melling and Federal Mogul pickup parts #'s are in the archives so no problem with availability.

The oil pump pick-up screens for all 1963-74 Corvette small blocks were the same regardless of whether the engine used a 5 quart or 6 quart oil pan. I'm out-of-town right now and can't confirm it, but my recollection is that the part number was 3830080. It's discontinued but available from Melling under their part number. As Tim mentions, the passenger car pick-up was different and some folks think it works for all small blocks. They're mostly right except for Corvettes. However, if it's a 1975-79 Corvette, they're right. For those years the pick-up was the same as passenger car.
