    1965 327/300 Flame arrestor

Last question from La. project, I promise. The snorkel air cleaner has the spout behind the carb. My free help took all this apart and I only have instructions to assemble the car NOT the motor. I have a small metal collar that fits nice in the spout but it is open as well. I see parts for 66 and later which is a domed screen. Tried one, hits air cleaner etc. Anyone know what goes over the spout or collar inside the air cleaner and where I can get the part? Stephen

PS We are done! Thanks for the help on other issues. Exceded my expectations. Another one preserved.

Stephen, The spout has a screen on top and a hose on the bottom that connects to a pipe that goes to the rear breather hole in the block (near the distributor). This is the same hole the road draft tube goes to in earlier cars, I think you would call this an early type PCV. If you want a picture I can try to get one tomorrow after the snow stops. Don H.

As far as I know, it used the same flame arrestor as was used for later, GM #3849856. This is the "domed screen" type piece. If the one you have hits the air cleaner lid, maybe it's not on far enough or maybe it's an inaccurate reproduction. The GM piece is discontinued.

The 1965 Corvette 300 HP air cleaner is the same as the 1964-1965 base engine air cleaner. The tube on the air cleaner base connects to hose # 3846122 which connects to the the tube asm # 3846110 (see UPC 6, sheet C3 in the 1965 AIM).
