    1965 Fuely convertible?

While repairing the fiberglass on my '65 roadster, I noticed that the car has the holes for the fuely emblems on each side of the front fenders. The car has the 6500 redline tach, the hole in the radiator support for the fuely air cleaner and the holes for the brackets on the driver's side inner fender for the fuel air cleaner. What are some other ways to tell that the car originally came as a 375 hp car? The original engine is gone unfortunately. It's also an early '65 VIN.

look above the wiper motor , coming off the ignition harness, for the presence of the "smaller than usual" black plastic connector that feeds the FI unit. mike

Does it have the side V fender flags, or their mounting holes?

Also look for the reinforcements over the lower crossbraces in front of the radiator support. service units were welded without the reinforcement tab

Check the four holes that mount the fuely air cleaner to the rad support to see if they've ever been tapped...

Of course, all of this evidence (with the possible exception of Mike's suggestion) only means it once had an injection unit on it, not that it came that way from St Louis.

            Re: 1965 Fuely convertible?

Stephen, The info you supplied pretty much nailed it. Highly unlikely the purple harness is still with the car though. But listen to Dr. MIke as he put the same reply up twice so must be true. The purple harness was/is for the micro switch that controls the starting solenoid for the FI unit. 64-65 FI's typically start very quickly.
Say you don't find the purple harness. That harness plugs into two connectors that should be dangling on your engine wiring harness. If your car was a carb car thent hose two connectors would be wrapped up with the other wiring.
To insure that bubba did not install the fuel emblems check to make sure you find a hold on the firewall band that one of the FI emblem studs would go thru.
63-64 is that way so I assume '65 is also. Say the entire front end is missing. Just looking at the firewal holes is a strong indication of real deal FI's.
Sounds like you have the real deal Stephen.
Do you have the correct exhaust manifolds for a fuel car? John

The fuel injection holes were filled and a V fender flag was installed. I found the fuel injection emblem holes while sanding.

I am not sure because of the spray bombing.

Appears to have the original tabs on the bottom of the cross-braces.

                        John,

i posted pictures above of the harness plugs. Unfortunately, I do not have the original exhaust with the car.

Here is a picture of the drivers size firewall band. The light is coming through the holes for the V emblems that were installed. The fuely emblem holes have been filled.

The fill spots look to be in the correct location.

Yes; commonly called the neutral safety switch connector -- found on all '65s (and maybe all other C2's), regardless of engine. The purple line comes from the ignition switch and ends at the starter solenoid. This pic is from an original 396 harness; proof that they even had them on cars that never had fuel injection or automatic trans.

I like this car. Stephen just sent me all his photos and I think it is real as others here have commented. I just added the car to the REGISTRY.

That makes 580 total vin numbers found. 187 convertibles, 210 coupes for a total of 397 cars. 152 stamped units and 10 engines for another 162 vin numbers.

OK guys, 2015 will be 50 years of 1965 FUEL INJECTION CARS. I saw VINNIE PETERS at LAKE TAHOE REGIONAL last weekend and we want to start a campaign to get as many 1965 FUEL CARS as possible to the 2015 DENVER NATIONAL CONVENTION. What do you guys think. Get these cars out and dust them off....finish the restorations and lets have a ''driving road tour'' of 1965 fuel cars to convention.
