Word of caution; UPS shipping rates up; especially in certain area!

Just got back from UPS station and found out the hard way that their rates are up due to
fuel surcharge (which is expected) and to some east coast area's in which they add a
"delivery area surcharge". (due to hurricane Sandy?) I do a little selling like all of us through
ebay so we got to watch this in the future. Thanks Larry P.S. This may also apply to other
    carriers.

      Larry,
USPS flat rate envelope went up $0.10 recently.
UPS fuel surcharges are a joke as they have never rolled back a surcharge.
Regardless, USPS is typically much less expensive then UPS.
USPS online allows you to save on their rates.

Bruce: Yes I agree the USPO is cheaper but not as reliable. There is no way to trace with accuracy either. I rather
pay a little more with UPS. Did you ever try to recover a claim with the USPO. I did; it is a joke; would never trust
them with anything of value. IMHO Larry

I like UPS also, but did receive a shock last week. I had sold a few parts and when I went into UPS to send, a 23 pound box with a 15 x 5 wheel for a 1961 Corvette was about $22.00. The second box was 8 pounds and was going to upper Maine, it was $28.00!!!!!! They said that anything east had a fuel charge added on along with the rate being almost double. I asked what the wheel at 23 pounds would have been to ship to Maine and they told me about $60.00. Crazy!!!!!

i don't know if you tried to insure items being sent by UPS, but their rates are $1.00 per hundred higher than USPO. 14 pound package i sent to plater today would have cost $60 more dollars if i had sent it by UPS.

I just sent a 9-1/2 lb. package to tampa Florida from St. Louis Missouri. $22.50. Yikes, this is getting expensive!

I fought a couple of filters Yesterday, and Fed Ex was about 25% less than UPS for shipping.

My son works at UPS you know. And old FI Art has daily pickup from them.
Their rates typically go up 4% or so a year. On line shipping is cheaper than farming the job out to someone else.
With the price of ethanol going up almost every day I don't know how the rates don't go up a lot higher.

Unless the PO looses the package they won't pay a claim on damaged packages. I know as I had a clock sent to me & the wood box was beat to hell. Filed a claim with picts ETC. I was told to have the shipper file a claim & i was stonewalled. I will never use the PO for a fraigle piece.

The last time I used the US postal service to ship from US to Canada it took 3 weeks, UPS takes 3 days from the same location! Dave

One good thing about USPS is that any Priority Mail flat rate package (envelopes or boxes) can be shipped with up to 70 pounds in them and still have the 2 to 3 day delivery in the U.S.A. Price is fixed no matter the weight.

I wouldn' want to ship 70lbs in one of their boxes. I don't think the cardboard is rated to hold 70lbs and take shipping abuse. I have received several priority mail boxes with damaged ends. Now this was more then likely due to improper packaging by the person doing the shipping, but still......

I use USPS Priority Mail, just dropped off 11 boxes yesterday, but I make sure that the items are well packed AND I run packing tape around all of the box corners to provide a bit more support when there is a heavy item inside.

I had the same experience with the USPS. My wonderbar radio was badly damaged by them (obviously their fault from the crushed box). I had pictures, estimate for repair, etc and the insurance claim was denied. They said I didn't package it good enough. Very frustrating! Don H.
