I am replacing the windshield for a coupe with a Feb 3, 1969 trim tag (G03) and Feb 5, 1969 build date, but do not have the original windshield to compare the logo to. I have seen photos of 1970+ LOF logos, so I don't need more of these.
I am planning on using Pilkington Classics. Yes, I can rely on them for this info, but I would like to check here first before pulling the trigger.
I am choosing January 1969, as windshield date codes are typically close to the build date. For a January 1969 date code, I know the LOF date code is NV. The original side windows have date codes of AX (Sept 68) and VX (Dec 68). I believe the LOF logo typically is etched on the outside, and viewed correctly from the inside, though on one side window it is etched on the inside.
From the latest NCRS guide, all windshields were Safety Plate, so I assume a SAFETY PLATE marking. My shaded side windows have Safety Flo-Lite logos and are marked SOFT-RAY but not SHADED. I believe shaded windshields are marked SHADED SOFT-RAY.
Open questions:
1) Was there a DOT mark in January 1969, and if so what was it? From an excellent piece on Camaro glass at http://www.camaros.org/glass.shtml, it looks like LOF started DOT marking sometime in Jan 69, so a DOT mark may or may not be present. By Feb 69 (for Camaros) DOT markings were likely universal.
2) What was the manufacturing plant for Corvette windshields? Was it M4 as seen on Camaros for laminated windshields?
I think the entire Jan 69 logo should look like the following (with LOF enclosed in the shield), can anyone confirm or better yet send a photo?
SHADED
SOFT-RAY
