I was recently looking at a 54 frame where the exhaust pipe passes through the right frame rail near the trans tunnel; it appears to me to have been cut away with a torch. It is painted black but I can't tell if it is factory paint. Was this modification done at the factory (which I doubt) or did a less than stellar exhaust mechanic find an easier was to "make things fit"?
Has this 54 frame been modified

Re: Has this 54 frame been modified
I think the frame is original but it appears that someone cut some clearence at the top of the exhaust hole using a torch.
In Noland Adams book "Corvette the American Legend #1" on page 31 there is a picture of a passenger car frame which was also used in Corvettes. Also see page 221.- Top

Thanks to each of you for your input. It's unfortunate that someone actually thought it was a good idea to modify the frame to accommodate the exhaust pipe. Well, at least it can be fixed without too much trouble.- Top
