    BB shielded/braided ignition wires

I've been planning to attempt replacing the carbon core wires on my braided wires. I've read that Packard 440 solid wire will work (With a bit of effort). I google'd the wire and ebay seems to be the only source. 2 questions though:

Is this wire availible new at my FLAPS or just NOS through ebay and other sites?

My wires were made by LL and they claim that the braiding is exactly the same. Some here dispute that claim, not looking to dispute that. But, will the solid core wire fit through the LL shielding or just original shielding?

    Thanks!!

I would like to replace my wire set as well. I believe it was noted a month or two on the TDB that there will be an alternative to LL coming in March. Does anyone have an update to the alternate source?

      lets see ---

the LL braided shielding is close , but as tightly woven as original
Also - the grounding ends (with eye-lets) are incorrect, they should be smaller and round not looking like a stop sign :-)

As far as copper center core - if you use this you will get a BAD whinning in the radio. You will need a really good noise supressor.
Unless you are using a high voltage electronic ignition I was told that the carbon core wires are fine.

      my 2 cents ....

MSD high voltage systems specifically says do NOT use solid core wires because they set up a magnetic field that will cause crossfires. Spiral core wires are preferred and also give radio noise suppression.
