    Steering Wheel Hub Nut Size

Can anyone supply the thread size for the steering wheel hub nut, GM part #114496. I think that it is about 1/2 x 28 but I can't find any Saginaw documentation on it.

The only reference I can find to GM #114496 is an old truck reference which says "procure locally". I do know that it was not available in SERVICE as far back as 1959. In any event, I believe the steering wheel center nut is 1/2-20 but I have one reference that says 9/16-18. I don't think the latter is correct, though.

I finally found a Saginaw column drawing with the threads called out. The nut would be a 9/16-18 UNF thread all the way to 1978. Then the thread was changed to metric and was M14x1.5-6g.
      Thanks,

Here is a little more information on the steering column steering shaft nut thread based on just a few Saginaw steering column drawings.

1966 A-Car Tilt Column 1/2-20 thread specified on drawing - no nut callout
Although I do have some other Saginaw tilt column drawings in the 1965-66 time frame, the steering shaft threads are not specified on those assembly drawings. I would think that all Saginaw tilt columns before 1967 would have 1/2-20 threads. General Motors Car Divisions were responsible for the standard (non-adjustable) steering columns until the 1967 model year.

1967 -68 A&F-Car Standard and Tilt Column 1/2-20 thread with 114496 nut callout

1967-68 Corvette Standard Column 1/2-20 thread with 114496 nut callout

1967-68 Corvette Telescoping Column 9/16-18 thread with 114497 nut callout

1969 and later A&F-Car Standard and Tilt Columns 9/16-18 thread with 114497 nut callout

          1969 - 77 Corvette Standard and T&T Columns 9/16-18 thread with 114497 nut callout

1978 and later Corvette Standard and T&T Columns Metric M14x1.5 thread with 11503521 nut callout

Jim, Just use a thread gauge and a mic to determine the size needed. JD
