    94-96 Undercarriage spare tire bumper/insulator P/N

    Hello all,

My 1995 LT-1 coupe has a rubber "bumper" or insulator glued to the underbody where the front of the spare squeezes up against it. Mine is shredded and I can't seem to find it in the parts catalog. Any of you know the P/N and/or a source?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

Mike, Is the bumper made of foam? If so maybe home depot sells the window/ door weatherstrip sealer strip kits?

Gentlemen, here are some photos of what I think you are discussing.

It has a foam like consistency.

      Hope this helps

The part you seek was never available from GM as a SERVICE part. Apparently, it was a PRODUCTION-only piece, perhaps even one that was fabricated at Bowling Green. Since very few C4 parts are reproduced, it's likely not available in the Corvette reproduction marketplace. However, if anyone has it it will be a vendor like Corvette Central, Mid America or Ecklers.

It looks and feels like many common types of black foam insulation, I bet one could be made that would look virtually identical to the original, although I've never tried.

Thanks for all of your fast replies. I will try the fabrication route. It feels more dense than just foam insulation. Off to Home Depot in the morning. The picture really helps Pat, I was assuming it was rectangular.

            Best wishes to all,

If you have Orchard Supply in your area, they have a material available in their bulk section (i.e. priced by the square foot and cut from a roll) that is exactly like this material. All you would need to do is cut it like the original pictured and apply 3M Weatherstrip Cement. It appears to me that the original had "peel-and-stick" pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) but nobody is ever going to know the difference.

                Thanks Joe,

Not sure about an Orchard Supply here in Chicagoland. I am familiar with them in California. I just returned from a trip to four stores and found a product called "Soot and Dirt Remover" which is a sponge pad big enough and feels similar to the piece I brought from the Corvette. Trouble is it's white and I was going to stain it with a permanent marker. I like your solution better and will be out west at the end of the month and I'll try and buy a chunk. Thanks for the tip on the weatherstrip cement...I was just wondering what to use when I read your reply. Can't believe I didn't think of that!

                best regards,
                Mike

Orchard Supply usually has this material in "cubby holes" beneath the table in the bulk section they use for cutting material and re-screening window screens. They have at least 3 different thicknesses of it. It is a very dense, foam rubber material and is dark gray in color.
