    68 Power Steering Pump cap

For 68 , is the cap stem for fluid level metal or the black plastic? Thanks in advance. Jeff

The stem was round plastic. However, the cap, itself, was metal with a smooth, non-scalloped perimeter.

Here is an early power steering pump assembly with the metal cap and plastic stick.

Thanks, guys. One last question. I have the cap your referring to and I also have one that has a metal stem. Would this be 67 down? Thank you.

Joe Lucia may be able to tell you with his library of old parts.

Saginaw was very good at updating their older service parts to use the latest design parts. This reduced inventory and prevented a mixup of parts in the plant. In many cases their older drawings were "Revised and Redrawn" and the histories of the changes were eliminated from the drawing itself and the history was only available in the archives. Also they "charted" a lot of parts like the power steering pump assembly which pretty much prevents me from being able to pinpoint change dates such as the cap going from a metal stick to a plastic one as shown above.

The older cap with the metal dipstick may have been used in the 63-64 period, but I don't think it was used thereafter. It definitely was used for pre-63 passenger cars.
