    What is this 1965 Carburetor

I ran this carb on my 1960 Vette for over 20 years, but replaced it with a 4656. It has a casting date of March 1965 on it and the part number cast into the flange appears to be M4744. I have not been able to find it in any of the GM P&A books. Maybe the top part and the bottom part of from 2 different carbs.

    Anyone recognize this carb?

Threw me off a little bit as you have pictured a fuel pump. The stamped number is the ID code, but not readable from the pictures 47?? The configuration was used on many (most ) late 50's-early 60's Chevy pumps with hydraulic lifter engines, major differences between part numbers was related to the positioning of the inlet and outlet relative to the flange. Good news is it is an AC pump from the late '50's-early '60's, but not from a solid-lifter application, nor a 327/350hp version.

Re: What is this 1965 Fuel Pump?

I was just seeing if anyone was paying attention. Seriously, not sure why carburetor came out instead of fuel pump. Inside the circular depression that does not go into the fuel pump is 3 tick marks and "65" below the tick marks; representing March 1965. I believe the numbers are 4744 and a capital M in front of the numbers. I tried googling with no results. It is probably worth a few dollars to a rebuilder since it has AC on top and bottom.

All I can tell you about it is that it was likely used for some 1959-60 application and not necessarily a Chevrolet application. I believe if it was a Chevrolet application it was for some truck.

M6y references on that number all come up to a FORD product. I'd think the number may be mis-read?

            Joe,

Your fuel pump has the same configuration as the AC 4657 pump pump which could be converted to fit other applications. I believe that your AC pump might have been rebuilt years ago by the Carter and re-stamped with the number "M4744" which is a Carter fuel pump number.

My 1966 Hollander (32nd Edition) lists # 208 (a Hollander part number) for 59-65 Corvettes as well as other models. The "208" fuel pump is described as follows:
            AC # 5594432, 5594657, 5594662, 5594665, 5621665, and Carter #M3028S

It appears from your photos that your pump has the 4657 configuration.

            Dave
