I concur with the AIM as you found it to say drill both holes and file. Like I said that's what I thought and it is from memory which is not as good as it used to be. But most cars that I have viewed like Dickie stated that were radio not optioned there was bonding adhesive type material used as the filler of the hole. Some cars that I have seen or even helped strip the paint that were non radio equipped cars the filler had a whitish look to it.

Also, filler only was in the switch hole (circle with small notch at bottom) and no feathering out as you would expect from a body shop repair. Looked the same from the back side. I remember wondering why would they not just make panels solid instead of filling holes. The fill was so neat, it looked as if a plug had been glued in, but I am sure it was just filler as Dick said. I remember it was much darker than the rest of the glass, just like the seam filler. Chip.
The AIM in UA6 section has instructions for drilling the alarm key hole, and one of the 1970 AIMS I have even has penciled notations for the change in hole size dictated by the change in the alarm lock during 1970 MY production. Thus one can conclude the alarm lock hole was drilled on the line or in the body shop. Did they make mistakes? Well, I think we all know the answer to that one.

      Joe,
While we know is is hard to plug a hole and make it stay invisible over time, do you think anyone working at St Louis cared about that? At most they only cared about how it looked when the first owner picked it up, and sometimes not even that far. Witness the body seam depressions we all look for and the rivet bumps from the headlight support. Chevrolet didn't care about any of that, and the workers cared even less.
