    BB Hood Bulge Observation

Trying to determine if these "flaws" were in the mold or caused by being hit by a buffer perhaps? Anyone with an original Big Block Hood care to take a close look and see if your car has this mark? I have seen the same grind/mold/buff mark on a few other original hoods.....

The following two photo's are two different car hoods 71-72 (same War Bonnet color).

Appears more like a 'grind on the style line' painted over rather than a flaw in the mold. My '72 LT-1 did not have this 'feature'.

Kevin, I would be willing to bet that this was the factory , likely happened when the the car was primed and may of had a run in the primer and was sanded away. the amount of cars that passed the prep line for paint left no time, A quick hit of a 80 grit sander would likely cause what you see. the other possiblity could be the hood had a paint problem and was put in the repair area and sanded and repainted. I can remember cars, trucks and corvettes coming of the Anchor motor freight trucks, and seeing overspray on the frames of cars many times, As this was a common thing.

this is a picture of my untouched orignal paint hood before I started the restoration.
It has those flat spots too - think it must have been a mold issue - my car was a 4/15/72 build date.

          Interesting Bill,

          Thanks for confirming another example!

            Kevin,

I have seen this before on Bowtie cars. However, I have an LT-1 and have had a couple of 68 and 69 big blocks that did not have this factory flaw. I agree with the other replies that it was done at the factory from grinding marks or as Bill C. suggested that it was a mold issue.
