Question for Joe Lucia on B/B Valve Cover Gaskets

Joe:

Does GM still sell the proper B/B Valve Corver Gasket with the "Silver Coating". I noticed in the
new Chevrolet Performance Book they give part #14085759 but am told it is "steel reinforced";
so I presume it would be not "Silver Coated"; correct? I also notice a old part #3860315 is no
longer available. I searched this board and can not find the answer. Thanks in advance-Larry

As far as I know, the 3860315 was the last "silver-coated" big block valve cover gasket available from GM. It was discontinued in December, 1986.

The GM #14085759 did replace the 3860315 for SERVICE. However, I believe it is actually the Fel-Pro 1630 "Cork-Lam" 5/16" thick gasket and without silver coating.

One thing to keep in mind: while the 14085759 is not correct and while it's super-expensive, it's, functionally, a FAR superior gasket. There's a reason why folks are willing to pay about 15 times as much as a plain cork gasket (silver coated or not).
