    Exterior/Interior paint questions

    Hi all,

In the past I asked what to paint and not to paint at the interior of my 1963 Daytona Blue/Saddle coupe. I understood all visible parts should be interior color. some questions remains:

    1) What was first painted: interior or exterior?

    2) How was the paint painted first masked off when the other color was applied?

    3) Are there good pictures available of cars with original paint showing the border of interior and exterior (with different colors)?

It is about time to start the needed body repairs and then apply the car paint, so any help and suggestions are welcome!

The interior was painted after the exterior, in the in-line repair booth, prior to the final bake oven. Loose parts were just laid on the floor and sprayed, and the only tape masking was on the upper (steel) portion of the coupe door inner panel when the interior and exterior colors were different - the upper inner door was interior color, with the color separation line under the door weatherstrip. See photo below.

Thanks John, How would they ensure no overspray would occur on the exterior color (event on the outside of the car?)

Experience and sprayer technique - there wasn't a lot of contrasting interior color spraying anyway.
