    1955 Harvest Gold 4 Sale

there is a supposed Original 55 Harvest Gold for Sale in Sarasota. Sounds too good to be true. missing shielding ,wrong Valve covers looks to be wrong master cylinder. I cannot tell if the engine block is correct would a October 55 car #640 approx have a 54 engine block?

#642, engine pad #0060882T55F, engine date code L44. T on the engine pad tells me it is a tonawanda block. all 55 corvettes have flint blocks. the F on the end is the code for a automatic passenger car. car is listed as a 3 speed, but has the regulator on the firewall and it has a washer button. this tells me the car was originally an automatic. should expect to see a august 55 or later engine date code and a pad more in the range of 0380000F55FG for a automatic or a GR code for a 3 speed.

if this car was a original 3 speed it would be a very good investment. the block, although not being the original block, is a 524 block. car is late enough were this would be a very believeable 3 speed. relocate the regulator and install a washer bag and later style washer pedal and it would be very hard to argue that this was not a original 3 speed car. in time a later 1955, 3 speed flint block will show up on ebay( probably for a lot less than $1000) and with the addition of a R on the engine pad you have a correct block with all the correct broach marks. excellent car to enjoy as a driver and add the changes over a few years. (the two line master cylinder is also a item almost everybody will notice.) i have seen this car listed for several months and i think you could get the dealer to come down in price due to items you mentioned in your first post and the non-original block.

I think this car may have been sold to a collector in Colorado. A friend of mine just bought one and sent me a few pics. Might be the same car.

a lot of harvest gold cars with the tan seats and green top have been for sale. a few of these cars close to #642 are 638, 641, 652, 693. the way the car is angled in the pictures reminds me of the way #652 was photographed. i know car is not 641. 641 and 642 started as indentical cars and years later they end up with similiar changes. both changed the valve covers to the fin style, use the radiator caps with the red poppup, went to a different master cylinder, show odometer readings in the 50,000s, retain older paint and have the original engines replaced with older 524 tonawanda powerglide blocks that have a 54 date code.

the car you mention has me at a loss. i have no records of proteam having a late 600 blue 3speed. i also have no record of that car in any of dorman's last three collections. i know of two late 600 blue cars. 662 was sold 2/25/2008. the second is #688, which when tracking #688, i see that at least some time prior to 96 it was in the state of ohio which is the state of mcdorman's dealership. i talked to the owner of 688 at the mcdorman auction on 11/6/10. at this time he did not sound like he was selling his car, but if he was, the owner of proteam was in attendance. at this time proteam was listing a pennant blue #58. i know this car had a unstamped engine pad with a 56 casting number.

bryan, list the items you think are missing or incorrect about the car. i will see if i can add any items so that you have a list to compare with the inspector.

Obviously the block is wrong. you woud have to get underneath to determine if it was a true 3 speed. DASH>>Either it is missing knods in the dash or the Proteam car has too many . Ignition shielding, Air cleaner ,Valve covers, master cylinder, side curtains.. Thanks John...

car is not suppose to have a choke. only knob that appears incorrect is the chrome hood pull. take a look at the very end of the video when the passenger door is open and view the boot settup for the floor shifter. that would be the only item in the interior that i would be concerned with. as for other items, the side curtains are in trunk, but i do not see the jack handle or tire iron. in the engine compartment a few smaller items like the heater shutoff, heat riser and the spark plug wire guides(wire guides cost $550) are missing.

Choke is thermostatic unlike the 6 cylinder cars.
