    Spring corrosion

    How much corrosion is accecptable on a spring before it is not a cosmetic problem but structural? Can they be checked for serviceability?

    Maybe you can see the rust in the picture but there is some slight pitting on the ends but the rest looks OK?

    These would probably be OK for re-use. However, in general, any corrosion damage that's advanced to pitting renders a spring unsuitable for re-use. I don't think I'd reuse those shock mount shafts, though.

      Hi Joe
      I guess I'll just retire the mounts as unfit and those shocks are actually bench stock. I have a good set of 3832518's I run on the car. Thanks for the safety advice.
