    '69 Fan Shroud Extension Fastners

I found many posts discussing the BB fan shroud and extension but could not find any guidance concerning the fasteners that attach the extension piece to the shroud. The AIM, pg 376, L36-B6 calls out this "screw asm" as part # 9418469. The t-nuts are not called out and I would guess they were already pressed into the shroud when it arrived at the assembly plant. The paragon fastener set looks like this:

Is this "mostly" correct? I have my doubts about the screws because I seem to recall small SEMS bolts w/ black finish used on other '69 BB cars I have seen. The new TIM&JG describes them as "recessed hex-head screws with captured washers." I don't know why Paragon includes (6) six pairs in this set because my #3956119 shroud and #3974014 replacement extension (haven't been able to find an original #3956089) only have provision for (3) three pair.

Originals I've seen are black/dark phosphate with an indented head, like the tri-power air cleaner base bolts. One head mark I've noted is A.

The ones in the pic are not, what I would consider, typical.

While these reproduction fasteners might not be otherwise correct, keep this in mind: captured washer fasteners are a PRODUCTION convenience. In a SERVICE or restoration application, as long as the washer has the same ID, OD and configuration as the captured washer, there's no real need to use the captured fastener assembly. Once the bolt/screw and separate washer are installed, no one will know the difference.

One item that I have noticed and I am working from memory the bolts are like Mark stated but very late 1969 could have the 1970 bolts that were silver plated but of a lower luster. Also the nuts I remember had 3 prongs not 4 that lock into the shroud.

Yep. The one T-nut still embbedded in the shroud is threaded for a 10-24 screw and has very small base with three tangs. See picture. My car is an early production '69 - #3704, Oct 4, '68
