    Does anyone have experience with the repo 2x4 air cleaner lid?

    Corvette /central has the (seperate) 60-61 2x4 air cleaner lid available by itself. Does anyone have one, or any experience with the repo lid or judging experience with the repo 58-61 2x4 lids? I would expect that the quality of the crimped-on lid for 58-9 and the seperate lid for 60-61 would be the same.

    Rivet not correct. Louvers detectably different. Flame arrestor material incorrect. Flame arrestor fins incorrect. Other than that, pretty good.

      Hey Mike, how are you doing? I have a complete (minus just the lid) 60-61 2x4 air cleaner including the flame arrester material and the metal retainer (or whatever it's called). All I need is a lid, and since CC sells just the lid seperately, I thought I'd inquire to see what kind of opinions/experience people may have about their lid.

        Tom;

        I thought you'd be the last person to care about a piece to pass judging, am I wrong?

          Interesting story - years ago when I spoke with a well known manufacturer of repop air cleaners. I asked why he couldn't get the louvers, the flame retardant, etc correct. He told me that every few years he corrects one of the items that's wrong and sells corrected air cleaners. He said I repeat that process every five years or so that way I have a perpetual market for my repop air cleaners.

            My reasoning is because if I'm going to pay that kind of money for a repo part (even though it won't be judged), I want it to be a quality part. Soooooooooo, I figure if it will pass NCRS judging, then it will be a quality part.
            I have MANY (if not all) Corvette/Chevy parts on the 56, they're just not correct for a 56. But I strive for all the parts to be top quality.
            And no, I'm not removing the FI and replacing it with the 2x4 setup that's been on the shelf for 30+yrs, I just need a nice lid for the air cleaner and if the 2x4 lid that CC sells is of a quality that will pass judging, I think I'll get one to put on the shelf with the rest of the 2x4 setup. That way, I'll have both a pair of 56-7 air cleaners and a 58-61 style air cleaner, because someday, the right car is going to pop out of the woodwork for those 2x4s to be mated to.
