C2 (64) Steering Column Turn Signal Wire Protector

There is a plastic channel (open on one side to allow wires to be inserted) on the bottom of the steering column jacket which runs through all the clamps which tie the steering column to the dash. The wires from the horm and turn signals run through it.

The AIM shows a single screw holding it to the column jacket. The upper side of the plastic channel has a tab with a hole in in for this screw. On mine the channel was inverted - poor prior reassembly - and the plastic channel is in poor shape. I have it all apart and need some input on putting it back together.

    1. The hole in the column jacket is big (really huge) and mine doesn't look like a screw has ever been threaded into it. If it was it would have needed to be 1/4 inch or so and short so it would not reach to the steering shaft. Does this seem right? What does this screw look like?

    2. Looking at catalogs, Chicago Corvettes seems to have the plastic protector with "clip" which appears in the picture to just be a plastic stud which goes in the hole so the channel doesn't slide up and down the jacket (e.g., no screw). Corvette Central and Long Island show the part as discontined. Paragon may show the item at all. And in no catalog do I find just the screw. Ther Chicago price is $26.50 which seems high for such an item, but I'd pay it if it was the right thing. Does anyone know where I can get the right part?

I believe Corvette Steering supplied those to the vendors, I ended up with some of them. Shoot me a picture of yours, I may just have it.

Gary, Below are photos of my original peice. This is shown on page D213, Sect 12, Sheet C1.00 Direction Signal part #7 3841555. It is attached by fastener #8 3793788. Since this is not called a screw then it could be a plastic push plug or similar. This is what I want to know and also what you may have. Thanks, Larry.

I just happen to have the column out of my '64. I did not remove it, but it looks like a black plactic push plug. I will say that I have no way of knowing if mine is original, the column housing has been replaced. I can get a picture if you need one.

Dave - I would love a picture. I used a heat gun and straigntened mine out and put it back in. It looks pretty good. If you can take a pic that gives me the diamater (relative to the channel) and a side view for thickness of the head. I'll find or make one from that info. Thanks.

Also, I bought a peice of channel stock from Gary above to make a new channel in the future. A minor item but they are hard to find. Chicago Corvette shows one for $26 plus $12 shipping....I just couldn't do that.

Larry, It took me a couple of days to get back, sorry. Its hard to get a picture of black on black and get any details. The diameter of the fastner in 1/2 inch. I hope the picture can help with the thickness, but it very thin. The end of my wiring protector seems to be split, don't let that bother you in my picture.OOPS, I can't seem to get my picture uploaded. I have to leave for a while, I will attempt later and provide me an e-mail address where I can attached it.

U got on another computer and managed to get the picture uploaded.
