1964 Exhaust Manifold Date Codes

Attempting to verify the originality of my exhaust manifolds for my '64 Production Date of 3/27/1964 AO Smith car. Its a 300HP with 4-speed and has 2 1/2 Inch manifolds. The left manifold is #3848563 and the right manifold is #3797902, bot the correct numbers. The Judging manual states that for 2 1/2" manifolds, that date codes began during the 1964 model year, but exact date uncertain. I wanted to verify the format and placement of the date code. On the inside twoard the heads, I have some nubers but they do not look like date codes. There are a couple of 3 digit numbers like 901, 801, 802 and 942. Can you tell lme what to look for to find the date codes if my exhaust manifolds had date codes.

I don't think the 2-1/2" outlet manifolds ever had date codes. These manifolds were last used for the 1965 model year.

I was getting this iinformaiton for my outdated '53-'64 Judging Guide. It states that only the 2 1/2" exhaust manifolds began to have date codes starting in '64. Since I am a late March car, I thought that mine might should have date codes. I am hoping that someone may be able to provide some additional information when date codes first appeared. My manifolds are in such good shape that another membeer said they may not be the originals. Just rtying to figure out if I could verify if they are original or not. Previous owner had put side pipes, so other exhaust components may not be original. Joe, Thanks for getting back to me.

My April built 65 has its original 2 1/2" manifolds, 3846563 & 3797902 and there are no date codes on them.

OMG. Another case of the dreaded "Incorrect Judging Guide" strikes again.
