63 fuel car vin #s and fuel units

Is there a place to find out what ORIGINAL fuel cars have/had for fuel units in relationship to there vin #s.
Meaning, what type of unit should a "very early" car have and what is the vin # range of a very early car. what type of unit should an " early " car have and what should a mid production car have or a late car have.
All this is Extremely interesting, where is this info ? Just ordered a new manual, but I kind of doubt if it will be in there. I am told that there were 3 revisions, 4 revisions, 5 revisions ??? Thanks, totally in the dark.

Factory production was NOT on a FIRST-IN FIRST OUT basis. Further compounded by system failures and return to the "heavy" line for repairs/replacement. There is NO magic "chart".

      Robert,

There's a lot of data on 63s. Using that data I calculated the typical relationship between VIN number and FI unit. Here's how to do it:

Multiply the last five digits of your car's VIN number by .179, then add 976.

This should give you the "ideal" FI unit number for your car. Your "actual" FI unit number might be slightly higher (less that 100 units higher), or
could be any number between 1001 and the number calculated above (there were no units 1-1000).

This is because, as Loren said, any unit that entered St Louis before your car was built might still be lurking around the plant and could have been put on your car after it was repaired or just found somewhere.

Robert, Noland Adams, Vol 2, page 139 has some good info but not all of it is correct. Ignore the info on the Brass PCV valves for 63 as they never existed.
But as far as your car is concerned Noland has a great pic of the recessed nozzle block.
Recessed nozzle block 63 FI's were used until Early Dec 63. But not all early Dec 63 Corvettes had recessed nozzle blocks. Had to say that incase some one here has such a car.
But there is no question in my mind that your serial number car takes a recessed nozzle block plenum. One that would have had the bosses in the front of the plenum machined off. The FI unit has no chrome except for the flag.
Other than the recessed nozzle block area the only other part that is different is the top fuel meter bracket. Same bracket but the earlier units did not have the part number stamped on top of the bracket. It was stamped underneath.
I don't think the 6th edition will have a chart showing fuel injection variations according to serial number. The earlier units with no chrome on them and a painted oil filler tube and cap are very refreshing to own and look at. John

          Michael,

Just for the fun of it I ran your calculations through my vin number and known original FI unit. Came up with 1050 doing the math. Unit is 1051, so very good I would say. I know its just one unit but thought I would let you know.
