1968 Manual Window Regulator Restoration

Does anyone know of a good, "How To" article on fixing stiff manual windows? Purchased new rollers, but not sure if that is the only problem. Windows go up and down completely, but are very stiff

Any help much appreciated

I had to replace the driver side window a couple of years ago. The manual window mechanism was somewhat stiff so I figured while I had everything opened up and exposed, I would lubricate the areas I could get to. I used the white lithium grease on all the pivot points I could get to without taking the entire mechanism out. I then worked the window crank up and down a number of times and it helped alot with the smoothness of the operation. Maybe it will work for you.

I, like Terry, had to replace the driver's side window on my 68 too. I took the window, as well as the fore and aft roller guides out of the door, and cleaned off all the old grease. I recall that some of the window rollers "rolled" better than others, even after a thorough de-greasing and re-lubrication. In my case, I had a number of original rollers from which to choose, so I used the best ones only. Everything works very smoothly now.

Some of those window parts are unique to 68. Don't lose them!

Hi Henry,

Thanks...As I mentioned to Terry, that just may be all that's needed...good cleaning and lube. Have you had any experience with repro rollers?
'68's ARE "Special" aren't they?

I did get some new rollers from Doc Rebuild. They were absolutely fine.

Yes, 68's are very interesting cars. They are much like 63's, with many running changes. Researching how a 68 was configured originally and then searching for the parts is great fun.

Yes..'68's are a challenge. Lot of one year only parts. Coupled with the variance from early 68's to mid production/late 68's.
But the search is great.
