Looking for information on a '71 LS-6 I am looking at.

    Hi,

Looking at a '71 LS-6 Corvette at a dealer and was curious where I should
post questions about it. Hopefully someone on this board knows the car.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chuck A

Looking for information on a '71 LS-6 I am looking at.

      Hi,

I am looking at a '71 LS-6 being sold at Legendary Motors. Does anyone know anything
about this particular car? It's supposed to be a Top Flight winner, but there is no more
      info provided.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance,
      Chuck A

Not to many 71 LS-6 Corvettes were sold, 188. How original is the LS-6?

Looks like a restored car, probably BC/CC paint. I suspect stainless exhaust, and someone painted the fiberglass on the bottom of the car.
It was judged at the Quebec Chapter meet in 2010. Your best bet is to contact them and see if anyone remembers it or you can contact a past owner.

Original enough to have one a Top Flight in 2010. Unfortunately, I do not
know exactly if that proves anything. Supposed tp be a numbers matching engine, but
            dorsn't say matching driveline. Has a M-22, but I don't know if original. I haven't
started asking them any questions yet, as I wanted to check here first.

            Thanks,
            Chuck A

Does the VIN end in 12764?

                Hi Michael,

Yes, that is the car. Do you by chance know anything about it or know
a previous owner or NCRS judge who knows the car?

                Thank you for any help.

                  Hi Chuck,
I am the judging chairman for the Quebec chapter, and yes we did judge the car at our 2010 annual chapter judging event, and did award it a Top Flight.
Please understand that the Quebec chapter is a small chapter, and we do not necessarily have the depth of in-house expertise that can absolutely validate the originality of stamp pads, trim tags or VIN plates etc., and we have absolutely no in-house expertise specific to LS-6 cars.
I you are seriously considering purchasing this car, I would strongly recommend that you hire an expert and have the vehicle carefully inspected and validated.
Unfortunately the chapter member who owned the car at the time of judging passed away last summer, and the restoration shop that did all the work has since closed, I'm afraid that you're pretty much on your own unless Legendary can provide you with more information.

                  All the best,

                  Paul

Essentially the answer is 'yes' to all three questions. I helped judge the car at the Chapter meet Patrick mentioned above and have met the former owner on several occasions.

Given the usual caveats of what a judging certificate means at the time and place it's issued and how this can be affected as time goes by and cars change hands, I'd have the car inspected professionally as a next step. As always, the 'numbers matching' phrase is hackneyed and nebulous enough to be meaningless.

*Edit* Just read Paul's post and am saddened to learn that the former owner has passed on. RIP George.

Yes it was sudden and unexpected Mike, I imagine that is why the car is up for sale at Legendary...

I would contact the 70-72 Team Leader Stan Falenski he has a great working knowledge of LS-6 cars and may already have information on this car. He could also recommend a member or members that would be a excellent inspectors of this car. The other thing I see they have the shipping Doc from the NCRS you could also ask Legendary Motors to have the gas tank order sheet be validated per the NCRS as part of a sale agreement.
