67' How to remove fan motor and heating coil

trying to pull the fan motor box out from firewall on interior side of car, however, can't pull it out far enough in order for it to drop down and out. it hits the cross member frame bar and is stll resting on heating coil behind box. how does the fan motor box come out?

Dave, I'm not sure your terminology is correct on this.

The heater fan motor is attached the exterior heater box (engine side). You need to remove the heater hoses, disconnect the fan motor wires, remove the speed nuts then be real careful pulling it off. You do not want to break a stud on the interior heater box. At times a sealer was used on the exterior heater box to stop water leaks (rain). You may need to take a putty knife to loosen the old sealer.

After you remove the glove box and disconnect the cables the interior heater box should pull straight back and come out without hitting too much.
There also may be sealer on this side.

This is usually and two man job.

    Good luck!

      Harry,
your right my terminology is not correct. I currently have the heater fan motor and exterior heater box on engine side removed. I can see the heater coil. I can pull the interior heater box out from the firewall so the studs are no longer going thru the firewall, but I can only pull it back so far before it hits the frame support bar; the bar that the vin tag is rivoted to. the interior heater box is also still resting on the heater coil by the time it hits the frame support bar. thus I have no further room for the interior heater box to drop down. FYI: I'm doing a frame off restoration

I believe if you tip the top of the inside box toward the firewall, it can be maneuvered out under the bar...be forewarned, the heater core is still full of water/antifreeze so you need to be carefull to keep it from spilling on your carpet (maybe that's been removed if you're doing a frame off).
