    Parking Brake Alarm Switches

The October 1962 P & A Catalog lists parking brake alarm switches as follows:

    58-62: 3737980
    1963: 3820594

I am trying to determine the difference between them. The 58-62 switch is difficult to find. But both Paragon and Corvette Central sell the 1963 switch. Looking at pictures of the 1963 switch, it looks like it'd fit the 58-62.

Has anybody used the 1963 switch on a 58-62?

The contacts are quite different, but as I recall, the bodies are pretty much identical.

The contacts look to be the same - 2 male spade blade connectors sticking up on the top of a barrel. The barrel contains the plunge switch.

This is what concerns me. They look the same or very close. But Chevrolet changed the part for some reason. So, I'm thinking they can't be the same.

The switch in my 1960 does not have spade blades sticking up. Not sure what you call them, but it has two round female connectors that the round male connectors of the wiring harness plug into. Here a picture after I cleaned and reinstalled it.

The 57 brake light switch has round connectors as does the E brake switch

I think you found your answer. The round (bullet) type terminal was the earlier type used through at least '61 and probably through '62.

More than "probably". 58-62 are the same. Older is different. Newer is different.

Yes, bullet connectors. This is a 58-62 switch, but wired for 61?-62 which uses a flasher bulb. My '59 uses the same switch but has a separate flasher and different wiring. The 2 brown wires male bullet pins pull out of the switch which has female bullet receptacles.

I see the Paragon switch looks the same except for the connectors. It might work after a rewire, but will be a obvious deduct if judged.

Other pic is a 63 but not a good reference.

Yes, you're right. I forgot. The connectors are different.

Here is my early 62, and my late 62 is the same. I may have a spare.
