    C4 U-joint markings ?

I recently purchased a couple of AC Delco u-joints for my 86 roadster with part #45U0405. This seems to be the correct replacement part for the anti-galvanic drive shaft joints.

The parts are made in the USA but I'm not sure who the manufacturer might be. Can anyone help me interpret these casting numbers to ID the manufacturer?

    Thanks much,

    P.

I don't think these are an OEM-type u-joint. I think these 45U0405/ aka GM #89049306 are, basically, aftermarket type joints.

The original u-joints were GM #14067678 and they're still available from GM. Caution: these u-joints sell for about 5 times as much as the above-referenced. Think they're the same? I don't.

Also, I believe the u-joints you pictured were manufactured by Federal-Mogul, but of their aftermarket line. They are of the anti-galvanic action type, though, the type originally installed. Although aftermarket type, they are, of course, functionally adequate for your application.

Have you heard of anyone having problems with them?

        Peter------

With these particular u-joints, I've never heard of any problems, at all. However, with respect to aftermarket u-joints in general, the main problem I've heard of is premature wear. I've personally experienced this with aftermarket u-joints of Dana-Spicer manufacture.
