    C2 Speaker 7282156

    $T2eC16NHJF8E9nnC6IONBQ9yLb5jGg~~60_57[1].jpg

This 1967 made 7282156 has a screen over the cone. I have seen earlier speakers without the screen (could have been removed).

Question, did all 7282156 have the added screen or was it added sometime during C2 Production?

    Thank You

I've never seen an original without the grille cloth, Harry. Think for a minute. The speaker was mounted face up below the dash. Any particulate matter that could squeeze through the baffle holes in the dash pad would drop down onto the speaker cone and 'rattle' with the movement of the cone. So if you were the designer, wouldn't you call out a cover?

NONE of the folks I know who do reconing work finish off their work with a grille cloth. But, no big deal. Hustle down to WalMart and take a stroll through their bulk fabric section. Look for the 'modesty cloth' that's often used to cover the bottom side of chairs and you're in business to hand cut a piece if your speaker's cloth is deteriorated or missing...

Jack, I was thinking the same think about crumbs and dirt. A visit to walmart is in my future today.

      Any suggestions on the adhesive/glue?

      Thanks

After tracing an outline on the bulk cloth and cutting it by hand, I lay down a sheet of wax paper. Then, I lay a bead of Elmer's glue along the top of the speaker gasket, spread the glue by hand with a single finger. Now, while the glue is still moist (using clean hands), I carefully lay the pre-cut cloth onto the gasket and smooth it out. Last, cover the speaker + cloth with the piece of wax paper and carefully flip everything upside down so the glue can set up with the cloth stretched by the weight of the speaker.

I use Elmers because it dries clear. But, you could substitute any other clear drying glue and some would say NOT to use Elmers because it's water soluable. But, these cars are relegated to 'weekend warrior' use nowadays and I don't expect many to sit outside soaking the rain with the soft top down...
