Does a Corvette Challenge Car Qualify For "American Heritage Award"??

I know there is now Judging for the 1988 and 1989 Challenge cars. But, do these cars also qualify for the American Heritage Award based on racing history?

I now own a 1988 Series Championship car. There were two #98 cars ran by series winner Stu Hayner. My car is the first #98 that ran the first three races towards the Championship.

    Thanks for info

When my EX4607 1988 Engineering Mule was awarded American Heritage at Novi in 2011 , there were two Challenge Cars displayed next to mine which were also seeking AH, I believe. Your Bristish Lucas rear foglights were sent today......

      Brett,

Car Judging Awards description are listed https://www.ncrs.org/awards.html but noticed the Challenge Car info is missing. Will ask John to add it.

Car Judging Awards are all defined in the Judging Reference Manual. Below is the excerpt from the JRM 8th Edition. Hope this helps.

      ....

Section 14 - NCRS Challenge Car Award
      1. PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION
The Corvette Challenge Car Award, presented at the National Convention, has the following purpose:
To recognize unique 1988, 1989, and 1990 Corvette race cars. The award is created for the Challenge Series cars that do not currently meet our judging standard because of their intended use. These cars are a historically significant piece of Corvette Heritage and consist of the following:
      A. The RPO code B9P 1988 Challenge cars consist of 56 total cars. Forty-eight cars were converted
for racing and 46 cars raced, and six won a race.
      B. The RPO code R7F 1989 Challenge cars consist of 60 total cars. Twenty-nine cars were
converted for racing; twenty-seven cars were raced; nine won a race.
      C. The RPO code R9G 1990 World Challenge Corvettes consist of 23 total cars with eight known to have been converted for racing.
      2. NCRS CHALLENGE CAR AWARD REQUIREMENTS
The Corvette Challenge cars must have documentation, which indicates they indeed were Challenge cars. Burden of proof that the vehicle is historically significant is with the owner. Documentation is
required in the form deemed acceptable for each individual case and must be provided to the applicable Team Leader 30 days prior to being evaluated. The cars are to be presented in the same configuration as documented.
An NCRS member must own the Challenge Car. Liability insurance is required. The vehicle must
remain in the display area until Flight Judging is complete.
In order to receive this award, the Challenge car must be displayed, evaluated, and nominated by the appropriate National Team Leader at a Regional or National. The NCRS National Judging Chairman then must approve it.

The award will be given for one of two categories:
      A. Converted and raced in the 1988 and 1989 Corvette Challenge or 1990 World Challenge
      B. Converted but not raced in the 1988 and 1989 Corvette Challenge or 1990 World Challenge
Those vehicles with option code B9P, R7F, or R9G that were not converted may be considered for
      Flight judging.
If approval is unanimous, the Corvette may be registered and displayed at the National Convention for the final award. The Corvette may be re-displayed at both a Regional and National in any following year for an add-on plate. Presentation of the Award will be restricted to two or three vehicles per type (Converted and raced, Converted but not raced) per year.

Things may have changed, but initially, one didn't "seek" the award. My 62 Gulf Oil car was the first AH car, and the NCRS contacted me about receiving the award.

I'm sure that when the award was first implemented, the group was probably searching for cars to participate. I have already spoken to Roy about my 1988 EX5023 King of the Hill Prototype, concerning the new award. Hope to enter that car for consideration as soon as I can get in the line-up. I guess I'll speak with him about the Challenge car as well.

            Thanks

...unless my memory is failing me, I believe two or three years ago Curtis Smith(I think?)had one or two Challenge Cars going for AH Award(or getting signed off or whatever)at the last time there was an NCRS Regional in Columbus, Ohio at Bob McDorman's Chevy Dealership. Don't remember if they were '88 or '89 cars though.

Thanks, Paul. Yes, I've seen Curtis' cars. He did a good job on them.
