i just spent the last 4 days(32 hours) disassembling, removing paint( that is very securly attached) to the soft top bow assembly of our 56. it too is a power top 56. anyway, i don't know who to recommend you sending the bow assembly to for restoration but i wouldn't get out of the electric chair to do it again.suggest ya do it yourself. there are 4 allen set screws that need to be loosened before attempting to unscrew four of the pivot screws on the bow assembly. they often need some heat to facilitate loosening them .as far as restoring the power top pump/cylinders/solenoids/switches, again i did it myself. no neurosurgery experience needed, just a lot of time. if you are mechanicaly inclined, go for it as i know nobody that offers these services. mike

A company Hydro-E-Lectric advertises in the Solid Axle magazine. The ad says they do power top rebuild. Contact info is 941-639-0437 and 800-343-4261.

I have no knowledge or experience with the company, just noticed their ad.

Hydro-E-Lectric rebuilt the pump/solenoid valve assembly and supplied the lift cylinders and hoses for a '58 we rebuilt about six years ago.

Here is a couple of names, John Schell, 260-749-8201 and Tom McManus, 845-735-4007. I would discuss the rebuild with all before making a decision. It will be expensive even with your own parts. There is a good chance that most of the rebuilders will recommend new cylinders, pump/motor, and wiring harnesses. The solenoids can be rebuilt. The system pulls 40 amps and you don't want to have 50+ year old wires shorting out and burning up your car.

            Mike:

How do you take apart the cylinders? Mine seemed to be a press type fit at the ends. Also, where did you get the replacement parts?

You don't take them apart. I will send you a Personal Mail, look for it.
