I can not get the push rod that connects to the clutch fork installed into the Zbar. I am having the same problem as covered in the thread in the link below. I have checked and double checked everything regarding the pedal assembly, the clutch pedal rod orientation and length, the bracket at the pedal is installed in the normal position with the clutch rod bend down (catches water). I have the standar 6 1/2" pedal travel. Correct flywheel and bellhousing. Correct Zbar assembly. However, I have the swivel connector on the fork rod screwed all the way in and I can not connect it to that side of the Zbar.
What I learned directly from David (his is the thread in the link below) was that he had his clutch plate reversed and that was causing his problem.
We took the transmission and the clutch assembly out tonight. My clutch plate was installed correctly. I don't know the clutch manufacturer (it does not look like the Luk that lots of folks recomment), but it is a cone type diaphragm that I bought from NAPA that was supposed to be correct for my 1960 per their database.
The one thing that I noticed tonight is that perhaps I have the wrong clutch fork. Again, in the link below there are pictures of the 55-62 fork and 64-81 fork. I have included picture of the fork that came out of my car. Mine appears to be more like the 64-81 fork. I have two questions:
Can anyone tell from the pictures if I have the wrong fork?
And, if I have the wrong fork will that cause the problem I am having, i.e. is the 64-81 fork bent forward more and thus not allowing me to connect the push rod?
