    Enclosed trailer tie downs

Has anyone used Mac's Tie Downs over the tire Versa Tie system? I am outfitting a new trailer and have a blank palet. Have previously cross tied with no problems but as we get older, under the car hookups are less desireable.----- any thoughts? ----Regards/Joel Miller

I have switched to Macs with the tie down rails and straps on my open aluminum trailer. So much easier to use and never have to crawl under the car.

John ----- I Thank you for the pics. I see you are using nets vs straps with the rubber boots. Would or do the nets abrade the wheelcovers if left on in transit? Thoughts? ---

I have never had a problem with the nets rubbing anything. I have towed my cars back home to Streator, IL for cruiser night a few times. Car never moves on the trailer.

On an enclosed trailer, access to the side of the car might be a problem.... especially at the rear side of the front tire and the front side of the rear tire when it is finally in the trailer. The photos provided were of an open trailer. Visualize the walls if that trailer were enclosed and decide if you have adequate access. In my trailer it would be a very tight fit to squeeze into to attach the straps to the floor rail. My trailer is a typical hauler 8ft wide box. I tie my C2 down at the rear using the holes in the frame ahead of the wheels. I have preset the tiedown lengths and insert the hooks while the car is still partially on the ramp. Then I winch the car into the trailer until the rear straps are tight. I then complete the front tiedown. Of course you need a winch to perform this. I elected to go with a winch rather than a side access door because the car doors won't clear the trailer inside fenders without trailer mods and if I need to bring home a "dead" car I can winch it into the trailer. The cost of a good winch is about the same as the additional side door, $400

              Joel,

I like the nets since they let the car move on the suspension and not fight the tie downs with bouncing.
I usually rent UHAUL trailers and they have the tire (net type) hold downs on the front and I just cross the ratchet tie downs on the back.

Steve I do not put much faith in the winch brake. I know a lot of people use them as a tie down, but I feel much better with a strap, chain, et .

Dick, I don't use the winch brake either. I tie down the front with 2 straps.... in fact, I loosen the winch slightly so that there is no strain on it or the mounts when tooling down the road......

OK, I misunderstood your post. I do see many just use the winch which scares me
