I shorted something out with a wrench ,when I was working under the hood of my 1963. Now my ampmeter points down instead of up. It gets a little more unusual. One time you start it, it points down. The next time you start it, it points up. It keeps alternating positions. How do I get it to stay pointing up?

Re: Ampmeter points down, 1963 coupe
I was able to correct an ammeter position by applying a reverse current thru the meter. I used a 1-1/2 volt flashlite battery and MOMENTARILY applied a reverse polarity to the meter. This corrected the meter needle position. Now if the meter returns to the "upside-down" position then you have another fault in the circuitry. Does everything else still work in the car??? You may have blown a fusible link or fuse in the circuit. Good luck- Top
