The pipe fitting on the fuel pump to receive the fuel line connecting to the fuel filter bowl for the dual quad set up tightens in a position where the flared end of the pipe is not properly aligned to insert and tighten it. In a loosened position to have proper alighnment with the pipe there is a fuel leak. It needs to be rotated another (approx) 90 degrees to make the proper alighnment. My concern is that the extra force on the pipe fitting to accomplish this further movement might damage the female end of the fuel pump. I have been told to proceed with this extra tightening to avoid the fuel leak. Input on this issue would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: 1958 Fuel Pump Pipe Fitting for Dual Quads
Richard, Typically I would recommend Loctite 545 hydraulic sealant. But since you have to turn the fitting so much for it to be in the correct position and be tight I think you should use #271. Permatex part #27100. Also known as the Threadlocker Red. It's permanent so make sure you get the fitting at the right angle.
When using this #271 you don't have to kill a fitting when installing it.
Story: One time I was installing a brass T- fitting on the main diaphragm cover of an FI unit. The fitting fit in the aluminum threads too loose to suit me. So I used #271 and didn't get the fitting installed at the correct angle. I could not believe how good that #271 really is.
Heat and brut force will break the seal though if necessary. John- Top

John, While the sealer will lock the fitting in place, will it prevent gasoline leakage? Certainly do not want it to "lock" in place, still leaks, and have to remove the fuel pump to deal with it as heat is not an option in that area.Last edited by Richard H.; January 13, 2013, 10:13 AM.- Top

Steve, The line and fitting are all part of a reproduction set. The line (flared end) fits well into the fitting, it's just getting the fitting to tighten properly in the right position for the line to connect.- Top
