Replacing Starter, AC Compressor, Radiator, Generator, Power steering pump and other

    I'm purchasing a 1967 Corvette.
I want to replace the starter, AC Compressor, Wiper Motor, Generator, Power Steering Pump, Radiator and other things.
If I use NCRS approved parts from vendors, will it hurt my score when I have it judged?

    Thanks,
    Richard Green (57800)

    Richard------

Except for the radiator (if a small block), all of the parts you mentioned can be rebuilt. If your car still has the originally installed components and if NCRS judging is in your future, your best bet is to have the components you have rebuilt. If they are not the original components and they are not otherwise the correct components, it won't make any difference if you replace them with other non-original and/or incorrect components.

Richard, you give us a difficult assignment...first a '67 has an alternator, no generater, and what is wrong with it? Why do you need to replace it/these parts?
Here is where I suggest you start; get the '67 NCRS judging manual and look up the correct part numbers for the items you ID'ed. If you have the "right stuff",
ie, the parts are correct, remove them and repair them as needed and reinstall them...you may not need "NCRS approved parts". Good luck.

        Joe,
Do you know of the best place to have things rebuilt?
How about replacing the convertible top?

        Thanks,
        Richard

          Richard -

There's no such thing as "NCRS-approved parts"; NCRS doesn't approve or endorse any vendor's parts.

NCRS Flight Judging focuses on whether a part appears to be typical of factory production, based on its configuration, date, completeness, installation, and finish; using the information in the '67 Judging Guide, determine whether the parts in question are indeed typical, and refurbish, restore or rebuild as necessary. The worst thing you can do is to start replacing parts without knowing what you have just because you think they need to be replaced.

Before you do anything to the car, get the '67 Judging Guide AND the Corvette Judging Reference Manual - they will help you understand what you have and how to proceed; both are available from the NCRS Store.
