Is it acceptable to repaint a 1967 Corvette using water based paint?

If it can be made to look like lacquer with the proper areas duller and the correct amount of orange peel, then it should be acceptable. Just don't know why anybody would want to use it.

What is the best to use?
Does the old paint need to be completely removed down to the fiberglass?
Someone told me to use 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear?

If your current paint is in good condition as far as not loose,flaking, or such then you don't need to strip it off. Of course if there are a lot of previous coats, then I would advise stripping it. There are a few people still using lacquer but I wouldn't call it the best to use so about the only choice is base coat/clear. Three coats of each should do just fine.
