Do the FI distributers on low horsepower fuelies, 57-61, in this case a 1959 914, cap off the tach drive with a unique chevy part or is that large hex cap a generic hardware item ?

Re: FI 1959, 914 distributer
My 57 250 HP early FI car uses a 889 distributor which does not have a tach drive.
I also have a 1110905 FI distributor which has factory Welsh type plug in the tach drive hole in the casting.
All 914 distributors have a tach drive.
In all low HP (hydraulic lifter engines) 1958 through 1961 the 915 distributor was used. It had a hex head plug in place of the tach drive. This information is in a paper compiled by Don Baker and someone whose name I can not remember.- Top

Re: FI 1959, 914 distributer
Hi Joe, Your '914 is dated Feb 21, 1959. As mentioned it's the Hi-HP distributor that was used from 58 to 61. Has a tach provision on back side.
The correct distributor for a low HP" Mid" 58 to 61 is the '915.(early '58's used the LHP '906 distributor)
The '915 LHP distributor is quite unique and all on it's own. All of them are dated late '57. So if you have a mid 58 to 61 LHP car you still have the '57 dated tag. This info in the JM.
"915 is single points, hex shaped vacuum advance, has an oil tube with spring loaded cap, a square plug in the back side, etc.
"914 was used from Med '58 to 61. Early '58 Corvettes HHP up to sometime in Jan 58 used the '57-'908 distributor. Don Baker can supply even more info on that issue but that is not what you asked here. John- Top

Re: FI 1959, 914 distributer
Thanks John,
That clarifies it for me.
Anyone have a photo they can post showing a non tach drive fuel distr ?
Were the weights, spings and brazed 'football' the same on the hi horsepower distribs? 290/315?
Thanks,
Joe- Top

Re: FI 1959, 914 distributer
Joe, Bruce put up a nice pic but that's not really the photo you need. You need one of a '915 distributor. I don't have one of those critters here to take a pic for you.
You have to search hard in the old manuals to find anything on the FI distributors.
See Page 14-15 in Corvette Servicing manual for the distributor specs.
See page 6Y-3 for the only info I have seen to amount to anything on FI dstributors.
By the way Joe in answer to your question about weights, springs and football. You asked if they were the same. Answer= No.
As I said the '915 distributor stand alone.
Run the '914 until you get a deal on a 915. John
If you own an FI car you all need the Corvette Servicing Guide. If you own a mid year FI car you need that manual, and the 63 shop manual. Not much in the 64-65 supplements worth looking at.- Top
