Appreciate any help I have original 71 fan clutch on car would like to replace with direct bolt on unit while I have original rebuilt as I am finding out how rare these originals are . Not worried about appearance for now as long as it works. Thanks so much Rick 52684.

Appreciate any help I have original Fan Clutch on car is there a direct bolt on out there I could get for 71 Big Block while I have the original rebuilt . I understand these original units are rare and could take some time to rebuild correctly. Thanks so much Rick 52684.

      Rick-----

Many choices for you. If the car does not have A/C and you just want to go with a "cheapie" fan clutch, use a Four Seasons 36780 or Hayden 2713 (basically the same and about 25 bucks). If it has A/C, I'd probably use a Hayden 2799 or Four Seasons 36996 (basically the same and about 50 bucks) but you could still probably get by with aforementioned non-A/C clutches since you only want it for temporary use.

My recommendation, though, is to get yourself a GM #88961768 (about 100 bucks) and use it PERMANENTLY (except for judging). For judging, install the restored original clutch. I don't recommend restored clutches for driving. The 88961768 will not have a configuration anything like the original but IT WILL COOL. Absolutely the best fan clutch EVER for a Corvette. Without a doubt. Period.

        Joe,
I am pretty sure that GM #88961768 was the clutch I got on your recommendation for my long gone 1978 (now that I think of it, it may have been a 1976) Suburban -- SAG WAGN. The last of the 1/2-ton 454s. When towing the front fenders would get so hot you couldn't hold your hand on them, but it never overheated. It got "the friend of OPEC" award often, but that clutch, assisted by a radiator from hell always kept the engine temperature in check. Even with both front and rear AC units on - thanks be to the A6. Real old tech, but it worked like a champ. One could discern the fan clutch engaging and disengaging by the sucking noise the fan made.

Thanks so much Joe getting the GM unit 88961768 for sure the car is non air so this unit should still bolt right on. Thanks again Rick.
