58 Intake manifold advice request

Intake manifold correct dating for judging? I have a 1958 corvette built around March 15th 1958 but I need a new intake manifold. My engine block and heads are dated feb 20 1958. I am assuming if I find a manifold with a date code December 1957 thru Feb 1958 I should be ok for judging. Can anyone please advise if this is correct, if not what should my date codes be for the intake manifold.

Eric -

The intake casting must be dated prior to the engine assembly date stamp on the front pad, and within six months prior to the car's final assembly date; a January or February date would be more "typical".

I have a "3746829" cast iron 4-BBL intake but the date code is "F 28 8" (June 28, 1958). A few years ago I tried to sell it on Ebay with a starting bid of $25 but there was no interest. You can probably find one on Ebay with a date code a month or two before you car was made.

Eric is looking for an intake, not me.

I believe that the intake dated "J 30 57" (Oct. 30, 1957) was made in Tonowanda since it has a 2-digit year ("57") and was only used on passenger cars, not Corvettes. If it was made in Flint the date code would be "J 30 7" and would be correct for an early 58 Corvette.

Sorry David for the mistake - I was in a hurry late last night and wasn't paying attention as to who originated the post. You're right on the date code not being correct for a corvette engine. I just read that the seller said it was off of a corvette and didn't investigate further.

Another giveaway was the carburetor. The Rochester 4-BBL was used on the 58 Chevrolet while the 58 Corvette used a Carter 4-BBL.
I really doubt that the seller really took the intake and carb off a 58 Corvette.
