    Russ

I feel your pain. When my engine was rebuilt about 5 years ago my clip was lost as well . I'm not 100% positive but I believe my clip just had a rubber coating on it. I've run my car the last 5 years without it so that should be an issue. The plastic lines are extremely tough.

      John,

I think you are steering Russ wrong to say that his '68 BB had the plastic line. Until an in depth survey on the subject with original owner '68 or bowtie cars can be made, the way it is worded in the latest '68/'69 TJM will have to be the standard. Sampling of 3 or 4 cars just doesn't work. The TJM says that '68 BB's had the steel oil line. That is the way it is judged.

My oil line and connections look alot like your picture but with the plastic line. They also all look strangely similar to the one in the 69 AIM.

Just a thought about the "T" fitting #7 in the 68 AIM L38,A5. Without that 90 degree "T", the turn in the line would be a tough thing for a metal line to make and then pass though that flush mounted pressure line clip "10". I.E. That elbow we have pictured and shown in the 69 AIM would be a stretch for a metal line. Maybe that's why a plastic vs a metal line 68 to 69. There are alot of ?????'s here and things are often not as they seem.

As I said in my first response it is my opinion that the oil line was plastic. I base this opinion on more than just looking at 3-4 cars. Russ's own low mile car supports this. I'm not sure what documentation led to the concussion in the JG that the 68 line used a bracket and a steel line, but If I wasn't positive in my mind that this was incorrect I wouldn't say anything.

              Terry,

Thanks for the post. I know that my car had very little mechanical work before I got it from the original owner (a friend). The master cylinder and water pump were the only things ever replaced. I find it hard to believe that if the car came with a steel line that he would have removed that and installed plastic. If the steel line had been damaged in the engine compartment then I would have expected that the line would be spliced with fittings. Otherwise the interior would have had to be removed to intall plastic.

I know the judging says steel but it is one of those things where I am torn (original as I know it or official).

              thanks

Here is my original. The photo is bad but the plastic line was cut at the fitting to remove the body and you can see the c-clip bolted to the head next to the spark plug.
