I wanted to close the loop on this in case others have the same issue. I ended up rebuilding the carburetor, and found as Joe Lucia indicated that one of the issues was a "heavy" carburetor float--the float had absorb fuel and at idle would stall the Vett out. I purchase a rebuild kit from Cliff's High Performance based on Patrick Hulst's suggestion, and the Vette now runs better than ever (thanks Patrick!). I am sure that I need to tweek the settings a bit more, but it now has great start up and idles nicely. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Lots of people tend to put down Quadrajets, but in my experience over the years, a correctly rebuilt and tuned Quadrajet works very well. A big key is getting the right rebuild kit and Cliffs is a good place to go.

As I've said before, a Quadrajet is the best street carburetor EVER.

Send it to Cliffs, he is the qudarajet master and has the quality parts that will not break down in ethanol mixed fuel.
