Just wondering, I have unit #2468 and it is doubled stamped on the frame rail. Nolands book seemed to indicate this isnt always the case. Anybody know why they hit it twice and were all the balance of units doubled stamped??? It must have been hit pretty hard judging by the dent in the rail. Thanks for the input. Guy

Re: 54 frame VIN stamp
Guy - I don't have an answer to your question but my #2637 is double stamped as well. You're right, based on the dent, they hit it pretty hard! Tim

Re: 54 frame VIN stamp
The pneumatic roll-stamper used on the frame was designed such that it took two hits to index it to the next successive VIN number without using the manual toggle lever; the same pneumatic tool (made for Chevrolet by the George T. Schmidt Co. in Chicago) was used all the way to the end of St. Louis production in 1981.- Top
