    63 rocker molding bracket finish

Does anyone know what the "as-delivered" finish was on the riveted front rocker molding bracket on 63 cars? A pic would be nice.

    Thanks
    Mike

Mike my 63 has one original left on the car, I would say it was a black phosphate. and the repro one I installed was the same finish.

I believe you will find that the brackets are spot welded to the body cage and the entire cage was painted or dipped in zinc chromate. Then when the car was painted the brackets were not masked off and were painted the body color on the outside of the bracket. The inside should remain zinc chromate.

JR, The brackets that he is talking about are the small ones pop rivited to the front of the lower fender.

OK, pardon me! Think I just might have some of those also.
              We'll see!

                That's right, Ed.

I drilled the old rivets out, as they were put in wrong anyway (inserted from the rear). I found that the brackets are black in a few spots where the body color didn't hit them. I'll be stripping the blue paint off off the brackets tomorrow and I'll re-phosphate them.

                Thanks guys,
                Mike
