Steering Box , Pitman Arm, and Linkage paint questions

According to the 67 Judging manual the Steering Box and the Pitman Arm are painted semi gloss black. If this is the case then would the copper flange and the retaining washer and nut also be painted? There also threads about painting the steering linkage as a unit. Is the area painted were the steering coupler attaches to the box? If so how much coverage? The tie rod ends were painted during this process minus the cone and threads. The cone and threads are covered by rubber so are they painted during this process??? Could someone post detailed pictures of how both these units would have been painted?

    Thanks

    Keith -

As stated in the 4th Edition, the steering gear may be either natural or painted semi-gloss black, and the coupler assembly is natural (unpainted). The input shaft on the steering gear (to which the coupler assembly is attached) is unpainted.

The steering linkage assembly was painted chassis black at Chevrolet-Buffalo as a completed unit while hung from both the pitman arm hole and the steering idler bracket bolt hole, with plastic or cardboard covers on the outer tie rod end shanks. On power steering cars, the unique pitman arm was added at the car assembly plant, and it was unpainted.

The 1-5/16" hex pitman nut and lock washer were received from Saginaw Steering Gear as part of the steering gear assembly, and were unpainted.
