Clean Air Tube 1962 ? exh.manifold to carb

I've seen Top Flight 1962 vettes that have this tube asm. but i'm certain that the new 62 340 HP vette that I purchased in Jun 62 did not have this tube asm.

It is not mentioned in the 62 JG....Many vendors list it for 62-63

Can anyone varify that a 62 needs one ?

The 340hp cars do use this assembly.

See AIM section 6 sheet 2.00. Same setup for all carburetor engines.

No tube assembly equals no choke for cold starting.
It was on all carburetted early corvettes at least through 1962.

Bruce...I'm not referring to the choke heat tube from the top of manifold to the choke housing....the AIM referenced above shows a 2nd tube ( part metal and part rubber ) that runs from a nipple on the top lip of the carb. to the bottom side of the exhaust manifold.

I have a stock 902 manifold on the 62 and there is not a hole on the bottm side as shown in the AIM

If there is susposed to be one....What would be the purpose...If it is plumbed into the manifold ...it doesn't make sense to me....the car was judged at Texas Regional and no comment was made about it missing.

Excuse Me....I did a search before hand and came up with nothing on the clean air tube....But...after making the last post i noticed similar posts listed below..i read them and I now understand that the clean air tube is part of a loop system with the choke heat tube.

I'll have to take a closer look for the open choke tube on the bottom side of the manifold

Yup, should go all the way thru and the clean air is picked up from the tube that comes out of the side of the carb top section.

                Jerry,
Yes my 62 also has the clean air tube with the rubber connector hose.

On a related subject let me say that a big problem in the FI world for the midyears is the car owners/restorers are not replacing the heat tube going thru the exhaust manifold.
Nothing more upsetting to hear an FI choke doesn't work because the inside of the choke housing is polluted with carbon. Those 63 to 65 chokes work on heat only.
Moral of story is replace those tubes. SS tubes readily available. JD
