That harnes is easy to check if you just look at the fuse box where it plugs in.

Non buzzer tach, yellow/orangeish-red warning zones, no buzzer, no harness on my L-76, 10943, built March 19. ( I have the dealer copy of the production order with the actual production date.)

I recall that Chevrolet marketing data on the '63 said the buzzer tach was only on FI engines, but Nolan Adams reports many early L-76 engines had buzzer tachs, too.

I did own a 340HP Coupe that had the buzzer. Bought it used in 1965.

When 63's were brand new, a lot of them had issues with the tachometers. The units were either repaired or replaced. This makes it even more difficult to figure out exactly which face and frame design goes with which car VIN range.

...have a buddy who owned a '79 RX-7 back in the day. We used to go rat racing around the mountains and canyons east of LA when he lived in Redlands.

The RX-7 had a buzzer that went off at 7000. We'd always laugh because it sounded so wimpy, and the engine had no problem revving to 7500.

Too bad that instead of the buzzer on early '63s they didn't spend the money on better connecting rods.

I never heard about the tach problems before, Michael. If dealers were replacing a lot of tachs early in 63, it would explain the mixture of colors on "original" cars. It might also have something to do with the missing harnesses....
