    Firestone or Goodyear goldline tires?

Showing my car (66) in June at the Tahoe Regional. Decided to purchase goldline bias ply tires. Read several posts and concluded that most people get the Kelsey Goodyear Power Cushion tire while some opt for the Coker Firestone Super Sport (SS) tire. Appears that Kelsey's Goodyear has been out there and judged longer than Coker's SS tire. My understanding is that Firestone initially carried the Deluxe champion and for the last couple of years has been carrying the correct (for 66 with goldline tires) Firestone Super Sport tire.

    Question:

Does anyone have any experience with the newer Firestone SS tire?

How has it done in NCRS judging?

Any opinion on whether one rides and handles better than the other?

NCRS Judging guide says either one is acceptable. Some say that no Goodyear goldline made it to the assembly line. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I have Firestones (from Coker) on my '66. The goldlines look great and I have never had problems with them in the eight years that they have been on my car. That being said, my next tires will be radials. Those bias belted tires are rough riding and they tend to "find" all the grooves in the driving lanes. I like my car the way it is and I don't care about it meeting any NCRS "standard" so I can't help with the question of judging.

I had the Coker Firestone gold lines on my '66. They were fine, and I have the Kelsey Goodyear Power Cushions (red lines) on my '67, I can't tell much difference except they suck for driving big time. Since they are nylon they flat spot terribly and it takes about 10 miles of driving to warm them up, by then many times I am back home. They are just for judging really, they sit in my garage collecting dust most of the time so I can drive with my Pirelli P4000s.

In my opinion the Goodyears are a lot better looking because they appear to have a wider tread and squarer corner. I haven't actually measured the tread width it just looks wider. The square versus more rounded transition from tread face to side wall looks better.
