Installing for the first time the clutch set-up in my 58. The Clutch Pedal Pushrod does not align properly with the Clutch Cross Shaft for connection purposes. It is 1" to the left (drivers side). Everything else in the system is in alignment. To close the gap, one method might be to enlarge the hole in the firewall to move the rod slightly to accommodate the 1" gap. I don't believe this will adversely affect the operation of the system. Not sure. Anyone have such an experience or have thoughts regarding remedies? Thanks.

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
When I started with this project there was a clip mounted on the frame but the tower to which the clutch cross shaft was missing. I had one welded on to specifications. I have never posted a picture before, I hope the link below works.

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
I do notice that the rods for the 59-62 have a slight bend in them while the 58 is straight. I have a 60 body that was placed on a 58 frame. I wonder if this is the source of the problem?- Top

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
According to the ST-12 the clutch linkage is the same for 58-62, I can take a look at mine in the morning after the kids are tired out from presents and see if I can get some measurements. I would think they would be the same for the all 5 years.

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
I could not get any decent pictures. The clutch rod exiting the firewall is 5 inches from the center of the emergency brake cable intering the fire wall, and 2 3/4 inches down from the lip where the parts come together. It is 9 1/4 inches from the fender well mounting. These measurements are pretty close and should get you in the correct area. Sorry that I could not get any good pictures.

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
Phil,
Thanks for the measurements and the picture. My measurement is about 4 1/8". A 5" measurement would resolve the issue. Perhaps the body was originally for an automatic and converted for a manual but the opening was not placed appropriately.

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
Richard,
Glad to help, one other thing I think the rod should be the one with a bend, I am not sure if the straight one will work properly someone else may pipe in. The bolt that holds everything together can be a problem the rubber bushing has a habit of coming apart at least on some of the new ones, but that is a whole different subject and has been covered.
As I have said before, many of us were the "Bubba's" of the past but kept these cars on the road many years ago.
Merry Christmas.

Re: C1 Clutch Issue
Actually the problem was that the hole from the firewall was misplaced. Once that was corrected, everything connects properly. Thanks to everyone for their interest and suggestions.- Top
