67 spare tire carrier

so I wish just once something would be easy to do? I went to install my spare tire carrier today and for some reason the cover won't fit flush with the tire in it. My tire size is 205 /70R 15 is this to large for the carrier?

John, Yes your tire is wider than the original 7.75 bias ply tire. A 195/75R 15. should solve your problem.

John, I can get a 205/ 70R 15 in my 63 tub? The only change I had to make was to change the two forward hanger bolts to the longest I could find.

I can get her in and locked down except the back section does not close all the way. I might just live with it. When you add the longer bolts does the cover close or is it partway open all the way around?
