    C1 Turn Signal Mechanism

I've installed the turn signal mechanism on my 62, but, have not yet installed the wheel. I've read all the related posts. I'm concerned the signal lever will not "HOLD" in the left or right positions. It returns to the neutral position. Does the wheel need to be installed for it to lock (hold) in the left and right turn positions?

It should hold. The wheel has nothing to do with that--it only uses the two roll pins on the bottom to return it to center.

No, installing the wheel will not help keep the turn signal engaged. I just went through this with my 1960. I installed new reproduction turn signal mechanism and had a lot of trouble getting it to say engaged. After removing and reinstalling many time, I finally got mine to work properly.

What I did was remove the cancelling spring (picture attached) and bent each of the outer arms out a little at a time to add tension until the signal would stay engaged.

        Ed,
On a side note, the turn signal housings have a tendency to loosen and move. I e-mailed you a restorer article ( June 2007 ) on coating the locking wedge to prevent this from happening.
If anyone else wants a copy let me know.

        Don,
I received your e-mail on the c1 door photos. It should prove to be very helpful. Thanks again.

        Erich

        Ed,
I tried to send the article but couldn't attach the PDF file but sent you a message.
